To the Smith family
9th July 2002
Tonight while I was giving my tstimony about a sitution happened in my life that a friend of mine that I used to witness to at high school who gave his life to the Lord Jesus at one of you Dad's meetings in Palmerston North. I am so thankful that he did this as if it were not foe your Dad or yourself he never would have accpeted Christ as his Lord and Saviour.
When I had finishred sharing I was told that your Dad had passed away. I was shocked and stunned, I was speechless.
I had a great respect and love for your Dad over the years. I have travelled all around the world and New Zealand and every chance I had, I would go and hear Barry if he was in the city I was in at the time speak and he would always remember me.
I wish I was able to be at his memorial service on thursday but my thoughts and my prayers will be with you all.
I beleieve as Barry would have stongly believed that we are about to usher in the return of out Messiah. I really believe that our Lords return is so near and there is so much work to be done and time is running out FAST!!!..........
I was wondering if it ispossible to be able to be sent a copy of the order of service as this would make up for the loss of not being abale to attend his service on thursday. I hope this okay with you.
On my wall hangs a text that has menay so much to me when I lost three family members within a short space of time. It reads "casting all your care upon Him, for He careth for you..1 Peter 5v7
I pray that has you cast all your cares and sorrows on Him that you will know His love and his loving arms that are surronding you at this time.
All my deepest love
Peter Day

Dear May and the Smith family
I was very saddened to learn of "Uncle" Barry's death. He was truly a great man of God, and I was so blessed to have been able to attend one of the Bible Schools in beautiful Pelorus in 1995 and living there with you all, when I was workig in NZ. He not only preached the word of God, but he and has family lived it - that was a great witness to me. I learned a lot from you all. Thank you.
My prayers and love are with you and I will be thinking of you all on Thursday at the funeral.
Much love
Dawn

May - What wonderful memories we have of the time you and Barry spent with us at Ahipara, Kaitaia, in 1995. We were truly blessed - not only by Barry's awesome teaching and ministering in the meetings - but also by the warmth and laughter and the "real" people you both were at home. Much love to you and your family at this time.

Faithful to the end - a truly awesome guy.

I would like to thank the family for Barry's ministry. I am one of the many who found Jesus through Barry some 22 years ago in Whakatane.
Just a few months ago a friends son found Jesus in Napier though Barry's end times gospel based message. -
Barry was faithfull to the call and his ministry and life stand as an example to all of us.

Dear May and family,
Margaret joins me in sending our love and support at this time. It is a regret that we cannot fly to NZ for the Memorial Service.
Barry's life [and indeed, your own] has so loudly spoken on behalf of His saviour. His simplicity of devotion, his uncluttered motivation of heart, his passion for the lost, his selflessness in living, his wonderful attitude and priority of his family; all these have spoken to so many of us in the ministry.
Barry was truly "a man without guile" and his light and witness will be sorely miissed by us all that loved him and all that he represented.
In gratitude and appreciation for his life and your own,
The Lord's favour on you and the family,
David & Margaret McCracken

We have heard testimonies of the wonderful things God has done in thier lives through the ministry of Barry Smith. It is but a token of thanksgiving in expressing our sincere gratitude for his life well spent in His Majesty's service. He can truly say as Paul did "he was well prepared for the eternal weght of Glory beyond all comparison".
Our heartfelt sympathies with May and the rest of the family for this loss which is transient like all things that are seen. We encourage you to look to the things that are unseen for they are eternal.
God Bless

Dear Smith Family,
Warmest and sincerest condelences to you all during this time. It has truly been an honour and privilege to hear and meet Barry or as he is so often known "Uncle Barry". A man who spoke with all honesty and integrity, and at the same time shared the good news full of grace for a generation of broken people. He truly epitomized the full measure of "truth and grace". He was always encouraging young people, and openly shared with anyone regardless of who they were. A great inspiration to all, sadly missed, but knowingly assured of his destination - PRAISE BE TO OUR GOD!

I never knew Barry personnally but listened to him many times and feel that he imparted something that was very unique.
I loved his stories about bringing the kids up in church and about relationships and they certainly inspired me to look at my life but most of all I loved his passion for the Lord which was so evident and so unchallangeable.
His teachings about the world we live in and the many things to watch out for definitely made me a better person and I know his direct manner may not have appealed to everyone but it certainly reached me. I wouldn't say I always agreed with his message but I can say he always made me stop and think about what was going on in my life.
I'm sure he will be missed by many. I would like to thank his family for sharing him with the world.

I remember when Barry spoke about the picture of Jesus welcoming his servant into the Kingdom(the same one on this site) at one of his meetings. That how he looked forward to Jesus welcoming him in exactly the same way.
Well Barry, I know exactly where you are now, and I hope you enjoy your rest with the Lord.
I thank God for your labour, for I saw many people come to know Jesus as a result of your ministry, whether watching your videos or attending your meetings.
Not only was your message powerful, but you came across as a man who loved his family and believed in "Family" values - what a witness! All this, seasoned with your own dry humour and the same jokes every meeting!
I pray that the Lord continues to watch over May and the rest of your family until the Lord returns.
God Bless you, Barry
Paul

To May & the family,
We were saddened to hear of the sudden passing of our dear brother, Barry.
We have known & fellowshipped with him over some 30 years and come to appreciate and honour the great ministry you shared together. We were involved in several crusades, in a number of towns and cities.
We give thanks for all the people who came to know Christ as their Lord and Saviour. Churches were encouraged and refreshed through these outreaches. We will miss Barry, and his tremendous contribution to the extension of God’s Kingdom.
We will always remember the times of joy and laughter as we fellowshipped with you all. Although we share your loss, we praise God for every memory of him. He is with the Lord, whom he loved which is far , far better.
Revelation 14:13 reminds us that the ministry we give out lives on.
We pray that God will comfort and strengthen you.
With love from Les and Isabel Covic & Family.

We first met Barry, May and the family in the late seventies when Barry ran a series of meetings at Riccarton Baptist Church, Christchurch. Barry's down-to-earth style of presentation of the gospel along with his sense of humour and his whole-hearted desire to serve God and lift up the Lord Jesus Christ and his precious blood shed on Calvary as the only sacrifice for sin endeared him to us. It was not very long before a long and lasting friendship developed between both families which has continued on over the years. Barry and May made huge personal sacrificies over many years to fulfill the ministry God called them to and to take the message of salvation to the lost in many countries. Barry and May not only talked the talk but also walked the walk. They lived with no thoughts of personal glory or standing in the sight of man but were wholehearted in their commitment to their Lord and Saviour. I remember hearing Barry preach from Hebrews Ch.11 and the 10 examples of God's deliverance and also the 10 examples where God allowed hard experiences for those who chose to follow and serve him. Barry realised and told the people if I preach it I must live it and be prepared like Job of old to trust and glorify my Lord and master no matter what the future may hold. It was shortly after I heard that message that Barry and May were to lose a son-in-law and eventually a daughter. Barry and May's faith was tested but their faith and testimony to God's faithfulness was I belive an inspiration to all who knew and loved them. As these words are written we have a twinge of sadness with the realisation that we will not be going to any more Barry Smith meetings but also with the realisation that Barry will be hearing the words "well done good and faithful servant" and that he is now home with the one he so wholeheartedly and faithfully served over the years. Barry would I believe echo the words of Jim Elliott who said "he is no fool who gives up that which he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose". To May, Andrew, Becky and Rachel and all the other family members our love and prayers go out to you at this time!

In 1996 my father died. In his last days he watched Barry's videos and teaching tapes on a regular basis. It gave him a great deal of support, and he was aware that his time was coming to an end.
A few days after his death, I was in the faith mission shop in Belfast and met Barry and his wife. I believe that this was a God given meeting - it was wonderful to let Barry know how much his tapes meant to my father. It was also a real blessing for me in a difficult time.
Barry will now meet my father in Heaven before I do!
'Till HE come!
