I have just found out of Barry's passing. I wish to convey my condolences to the family. I first heard of Barry through a Born again friend, last year in Feburary 2001. Barry was Preaching in a suburb called springwood (Brisbane) my friend invited me to hear Gods meassenger. My spirit, was very much touched on the meassages that were given. I believed this man was a servant of god as I listen too the messages he was delivering too the people and myself. Now, God has taken him home too rest, thank you Jesus.thank you for this wonderful servant and his family. May! may the Grace of God continue to inspire you and your children and the next generation. Thank You for sharing your husband whom God had chosen too deliever His messages! My friend, loan two of his books to me, we moved up too, north Qld before I could return them. They are ...better than Nostradamus and the jigsaw. but instead, these books have found thereway into other homes and has inspired other believer's and non believer's, so once again our deepst sympathy to you and your family.

It is sad to hear about the death of Barry Smith, however, I know that he has gone to be with the Lord. His ministry has blessed me in many ways.

We were stunned to hear of Barry's death.
I felt sure he would be around until we all were caught up in the air together!
It's because of Barry's books that I have been saved - plus my husband, mother, sister, son and I'm sure more to follow in the future.
I just praise God because it was my dream to tell Barry in person this news - and God lead us to go and listen again to Barry in Christchurch earlier this year, when we felt compelled to go forward and re-confirm our love for Christ. I got the chance to shake Barry's hand and tell him 'thankyou' in person. Little did I know that Barry would be 'going home' so soon.
Thanks to all the Smith family for sharing Barry with us all. What a great but humble man. I just thank God for him. Praise the Lord!

To May and the family,
What a treasure The Father has blessed you and the world with in Barry, I thank Him for the priveligde of having been able to be in Barry,s meetings and the love and humour in which he presented to us such a serious subject,All the while displaying such hope and joy and security in our precious Saviour the Lord Jesus Christ.
Although I havent personally spoken with him, yet I always felt that I had been with a favourite relative whenever he came to speak ,he had that simple down to earth,an everyday genuine humorous nature, and how he will be missed ,may you be greatly comforted during this time May and family and having been blessed with such a wonderfull husband, father and grandfather,I know that His antics and humour will keep you laughing for the rest of your days.
But Jesus ,your firm foundation will keep you and preserve you and bless you with the comfort of the Holy Spirit.
From our family in Brisbane to Yours,
Love Gemma.

| BARRY'S BIOGRAPHY | 20/08/2002 at 01:41am GMT |
Dear Andrew, May and family,
I have left a message previously. The reason for the heading above is that I was speaking with Barry in London a year before he died.
My wife Karen and I were living and working there at the time. I spoke with Barry at the time re writing his biography, to which he replied that "My son Andrew is getting around to doing just that (writing Barry's biography) or words to that effect.
In my view, Barry's life would be a fascinating story and I would love to help bring it together.
I have been a journalist, sub-editor and editor for 25 years (still am) and I would be only to happy to assist.
I'm sure that with all the people who have left messages on this site, each would have a remembrance of some of the great tales Barry has related over the years.
A biography would be a great witness and a great "read".
We are now living back in Queensland on the Sunshine Coast, so please contact me on journoscott@yahoo.com should you decide to go ahead with the project.
Again, our best wishes to all in the extended Smith clan.
God bless and praise the name of the Lord Jesus.

I was saddened to hear of Barry's passing away. After some formal Biblical Study, I have come to learn that Barry, like everyone else, was on a journey of ever increasing enlightenment! Fallibility is something that all humans have to contend with, and as Barry would agree, I'm sure, so did he. I'm well aware the Barry had his critics, and at times I found it difficult to understand his interpretations but the difference with Barry was that he had a "heart"!!! I believe with all my heart he genuinely loved people although his means, to some, may of been controversial?
Our family spent a couple of weeks, back in '96, with the Smith family at a evangelism retreat. Some of the prophetic teaching, I felt, was open to "discussion" but what sold me was the last day of the meeting. I can still picture it now -- "a tractor with a man in a black singlet driving around the property picking up rubbish bins, and in the front bucket of the tractor a couple of young legs hanging out."
Yep, you got it! Barry had taken "MY BOY" for a ride. That told me more about Barry Smith than all his books put together!!
You've met your maker Barry, and he's probably correcting some of your understandings, but you've made it!!!!!!!
Heaven now has one of the characters that keeps us smiling in the hard times.
May God Bless and give peace to all the remaining Smiths!!!!

God used Barry to win me and my wife to Christ in 1990. We are extremely thankful to the Lord that he used Barry to preach the gospel here in Washington State, USA. We have fond memories of that April day when we went forward at Barry's invitation to ask Jesus to save us. When he told the crowd, "I'm going to be with Him", and he pointed up to the sky, God used that moment to open my eyes to where I was headed if I didn't repent! Much more could be said, but please accept our condolences. We look forward to that great "Day" when we will be able to thank Barry in the presence of our Lord.
Respectfully, Mark and Julie Uptain

I am from Cairns, Australia. I was saved in the early eighties and have been following Barry's teachings on end times since then. I will really miss him. I just couldn't believe it when I read the Omega Times to see that he had gone home to be with Jesus. He's in the ultimate place.
God Bless you all
Gail.

Take care all.

Our love to Aunty May & family,
Barry has always been a encouragement to many people in Brisbane when he visited here. He always told the same message. Don't worry about what is happening in the world, Jesus will look after you.
I remember going to many of his meetings here in Brisbane and the Gold Coast and hearing the song "Lord I hear thy welcome voice". At each of the meetings many of the people had all come from different churches. We would see many old faces at the meetings and try to guess what was new each year. This Man of God would bring us together to let us know "Don't worry about what is happening in the world, Jesus will look after you". Same message.
We will miss Barrys meetings in Brisbane. We glad that we attended many of the meetings held in Brisbane over the last 14 years or so.
Once again Love to Aunty May & family and thank you for sharing Barry with us.

Dear May, Andrew and family,
I and my wife are Australians but we spoke with Barry in mid-2001 when he was preaching in London (we were living and working there at the time). I suggested that I could help out in writing his biography. Barry said at the time it was a project that "my son Andrew was going to do one of these days, but I appreciate your offer, Scott."
Barry was simply, my favourite evagelist/teacher ever since I was saved in 1981. I loved his simplicity and importantly his wonderful sense of humour. Praise the Lord!
God bless
Scott and Karen Nicol, Queensland Australia.
